One spectator sustained a leg injury when a railing collapsed after a high school football game between rivals Bergen Catholic and Don Bosco in Oradell on Saturday.
Oradell police said the incident occurred at the conclusion of the game at Jack McGovern Field at Bergen Catholic. Approximately 4,000 spectators attended the contest, the 84th meeting between the two Bergen County programs. Bergen Catholic trailed 24-0 before rallying for a 34-30 victory.
The Incident
Police Chief David Gangemi said students and players gathered near the student section to celebrate after the game. During the gathering, a fence and railing separating spectators from the field gave way, causing several people to fall onto the track. One audience member suffered a leg injury that was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Oradell police officers were providing security for the event. Gangemi credited Bergen Catholic staff and responding personnel for their cooperation during the incident.
