A 21-year-old Palisades Park man was arrested Tuesday night after police say he struck parked vehicles with his Chevrolet Camaro, directed the car toward an officer, and later crashed on Route 46 in Fort Lee.
Wilmer J. Gamezsuchite faces one count of eluding, according to Palisades Park Police Chief George Beck. Officers Christian Sisco, Marc Larrea, and Jasper Chau responded shortly after 9 p.m. to reports of a vehicle striking parked cars near 10th Street and East Palisades Boulevard.
Vehicle Located and Pursuit
Police identified the vehicle as a white Chevrolet Camaro. Officer Sisco located the car parked in front of 460 Bergen Boulevard. When he positioned his patrol vehicle in front of the Camaro and approached the driver, the car accelerated toward him and fled, police said.
Crash and Arrest
The Camaro later crashed on Route 46 in Fort Lee near Main Street. Occupants fled the scene on foot. Gamezsuchite was taken into custody in Leonia near Cumley Terrace. He was released pending an appearance in Bergen County Superior Court on Nov. 2.
Police Statement
“The decisive actions taken by our officers—bolstered by our strong neighboring partnerships with Fort Lee and Leonia—ensured that a reckless individual was taken off our streets swiftly and safely,” Chief Beck said.
