Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan was locked down for approximately one hour Friday morning after a report that a student might have a knife in the building, according to a report in The Record.
Police responded to the school and located the student in question. Officers determined that the student did not have a weapon, and the lockdown was lifted, the report said.
School Serves Four Towns
The regional high school serves students in grades 9-12 from Harrington Park, Northvale, Norwood, and Old Tappan. The incident marks the second lockdown at the school this year. In April, the school went into lockdown after a student brought an air gun onto campus. That student was arrested, officials said at the time.
Other Local Lockdowns This Week
Several other New Jersey schools entered lockdown or shelter-in-place status this week, including incidents in Hoboken and Monmouth County. Some of the threats were later determined to be hoaxes. Another Bergen County school was briefly locked down earlier in the week after a report of a man with a machete outside the building.
