One spectator sustained a leg injury when a railing collapsed at the conclusion of a high school football game between Bergen Catholic and Don Bosco in Oradell on Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred after the game at Jack McGovern Field at Bergen Catholic, which drew approximately 4,000 spectators. Oradell police, who provided security for the event, said the railing separated spectators from the field and gave way as students and players gathered near the student section to celebrate. Several people spilled onto the track as a result.
Police Chief David Gangemi said the injured spectator received treatment at the scene. No other injuries were reported. The game marked the 84th meeting between the rivals, with Bergen Catholic overcoming a 24-0 deficit to win 34-30.
Police Response
Gangemi credited Bergen Catholic staff and responding personnel for their cooperation during the event. Oradell police continue to investigate the collapse.
