Two teachers’ aides at a Hackensack day care center were arrested this week on charges of physically abusing two children, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.
Chillyann Spencer, 24, of Paterson, and Deily Perez, 49, of the Bronx, each face two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Both were taken to the Bergen County Jail after their arrests on Wednesday and appeared in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack on Friday, where they were ordered released pending further proceedings.
Investigation Details
Prosecutors said the Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on Sept. 11 regarding the alleged assaults. An investigation by the prosecutor’s office and Hackensack police determined that the two aides physically abused the children on Sept. 9 at the day care center.
A court document reviewed by Patch indicated that one of the children sustained a bruised torso. Detectives examined surveillance footage from the facility as part of the inquiry. The children’s ages were not disclosed.
Next Steps
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office provided the information in a statement released Friday. Additional details have not been made public at this time.
