A woman and her 2-year-old son escaped a kitchen fire Tuesday afternoon in Rochelle Park, but three pets were hospitalized and the home was left uninhabitable, according to Bergen County officials.
Incident Details
Police Captain James DePreta said emergency workers responded to a call at approximately 2:15 p.m. for a fire on Howard Avenue. The woman and child were able to exit the residence safely. A dog and two cats were transported to Oradell Animal Hospital for treatment. DePreta said no information was immediately available on the animals’ conditions.
Fire Response
Fire departments from Rochelle Park, Maywood, Lodi, and Hackensack responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze. The residence was declared uninhabitable following the incident.
Family Assistance
The Red Cross is providing support to the family of five, which includes temporary lodging, food, clothing, and other immediate needs. Red Cross Disaster Health and Disaster Mental Health Services are also available to the family.
The cause of the fire has not been released by officials.
