ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — Both men in a Sept. 27 fight that ended in a stabbing inside a Grand Avenue apartment building were injured, but the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office release announcing the case names only one of them as charged: a 60-year-old Englewood man who prosecutors say had a broken nose and a cut to his head. The release does not say how he was hurt.
Ahmed S. Mohamed, 60, of Englewood, is charged with aggravated assault, weapons offenses and endangering the welfare of a child, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced in a release dated Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026. Prosecutors say two juveniles were in the residence when the fight happened.
Charges are accusations. Mohamed is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

What prosecutors say happened
At about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, Englewood police responded to a report of a stabbing at a multi-dwelling apartment building on Grand Avenue. Officers found an adult man with severe lacerations to his upper abdomen and arm. They also found Mohamed at the scene with a laceration to the head and a broken nose, according to the release.
Both men were taken to area hospitals. Mohamed was treated and released that evening. The other man was hospitalized with serious injuries, treated for several days and released on Thursday, Oct. 1, the release says.
Detectives from the prosecutor’s Robbery-Homicide Division joined Englewood police in the investigation, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene. Investigators concluded that Mohamed and the other man were in a dispute that escalated into a serious physical altercation, and that Mohamed brandished a knife and used it to cut the man’s upper abdomen and left arm, according to the release. Investigators also learned that two juveniles were in the residence at the time, it says.
The charges
Mohamed was arrested the same day, Sept. 27, and charged with:
- Second-degree aggravated assault (N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1))
- Second-degree endangering the welfare of a child (N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2))
- Third-degree aggravated assault (N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2))
- Third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d)
- Third-degree endangering the welfare of a child (N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2))
- Fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon (N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d)
He was sent to the Bergen County Jail, made a first appearance and was ordered released on Tuesday, Oct. 6, nine days after his arrest, pending his next appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, the release says. The prosecutor’s office announced the arrest the next day.
The investigation was conducted by the prosecutor’s office under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer and the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley, according to the release.
What fits — and what still doesn’t
What fits: The release describes injuries to both men, a dispute that turned physical, and a knife that prosecutors say Mohamed brandished. The two child-endangerment counts line up with the release’s statement that two juveniles were in the residence.
What the release does not say:
- How Mohamed was hurt. The release lists his head laceration and broken nose but does not say what caused them or who started the physical fight.
- Whether anyone else faces charges. Mohamed is the only person the release names as arrested or charged. It does not address whether the other man was investigated over Mohamed’s injuries.
- What the dispute was about, or how the two men knew each other.
- The juveniles. The release does not give their ages, their relationship to either man, or whether they saw the fight; it says only that they were in the residence.
- Why he was released. The release says Mohamed was ordered released Oct. 6 but gives no reason and lists no conditions.
Bergen TV checked the prosecutor’s press-release page on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, and found no update to the case. No defense attorney is named in the release.
Open questions
- When is Mohamed’s next court date in Hackensack?
- What release conditions, if any, were set on Oct. 6?
- Will prosecutors say how Mohamed was injured?
The arrest was reported earlier by Daily Voice, Patch and Englebrook Independent News after the Oct. 7 announcement.
